The St. Lawrence River at the Atlantic Ocean

This is one end of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The other end is 2,300 miles away, by water: Duluth, Wisconsin, at the western end of Lake Superior.  The entire Seaway has been navigable by ocean-going freighters since 1959.

This photo required a lot of restoration work.  The sun is just barely above the top of the frame; the shallow angle caused two small, internal lens reflections, which have been masked.  There were also a few sensor burns, which are caused when a digital camera is pointed at a very bright light for too long.  Finally, while all photographers know how to clean a camera lens, not all astronauts know how to clean a window, so I masked some serious unpleasantness along the horizon. Hudson Bay, and the North Pole Beyond

Hudson Bay, which opens into the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, is due north of the Great Lakes.

The yellow dot in the lower right is Kuujjuarapik, Quebec, which has a one-runway airport.  None of the communities you can see are connected by roads.
