When this photo was taken, the ISS was ≈500 miles above a point in Lake Superior that is almost 400 miles from MSP, so it was taken at a fairly steep angle. Line-of-sight*, the ISS was ≈625 miles away.

*The phrase “as the crow flies” doesn’t quite work in this situation.
