The Moon from Space
Small: 3MP cropped from a 16MP photo.
Through a zoom lens, the Moon’s 3D shape is more obvious than what we see on Earth. The ISS is no closer to the Moon than the Earth is, but there’s no atmosphere to blur the image. Even during the short time each month that the Moon is full, in orbit it races across the sky in 45 minutes instead of 12 hours, so hand-held photography is difficult. But imagine seeing this with your eyes, through a porthole.
ISS Distance from Earth: ≈500 miles
Distance to Moon: ≈250,000 miles
